Technipaq upgrade FileMaker solution without the stress

Technipaq Inc, located in Crystal Lake, IL are a premium suppliers of flexible packaging materials to the Medical Industry.

Ordering and production are managed via a custom FileMaker database initially developed in 1991. As the business continued to grow, so to had the scope of the FileMaker solution with fields, scripts and layouts established to accommodate changes in business process. This ad-hoc approach meant the system was becoming difficult to navigate and cluttered layouts made training of new employees difficult. Technipaq contracted Insightful Systems to perform a gradual upgrade of the existing solution, improving overall data flow without affecting business continuity.

Administrative Executive, Jeanette Corridon commented, "Our FileMaker database had become less effective over time. Changes in our business meant that screen designs had become cluttered, layouts were no longer applicable and we weren't making use of FileMaker's capabilities."

Key changes implemented in the new FileMaker solution include:

• Implemented a standard interface including module navigation, back/forward navigation and Quicksearch functionality
• Provided visibility to related information, such as Orders for Customers and Review and Absentee forms for Employees
• Added an Inventory Module to track stock availability and order production
• Manage Customer complaints and feedback with full audit log and task assignment
• Added a production schedule view for machine scheduling
• Implemented a process for determining which items on an annual basis have met the requirements for being considered Obsolete or Inactive. Systems are now in place to report on these items as well as generate necessary forms, customer alerts and work orders to change the relevant status

Technipaq have been very happy with the phased approach to upgrading the database. "It has been a great advantage to phase in a new system while still being able to work in the existing version.
